EOG TEST FAQS

Understanding End-of-Grade Test Results

You will receive results of End-Of-Grade tests in your child's folder. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about these assessments.

What are End-of-Grade (EOG) tests?

The tests assess student proficiency in key subjects. All students in North Carolina take End-of-Grade reading and math tests every year in grades 3-8. Fifth and eighth graders also take an End-of-Grade science test.

What do my child's scores mean?

The scores are only one of many indicators of how well your child is doing in school. They give you and the Carolina Charter instructional team a chance to compare your child’s performance with that of other students in the same grade at CCA and with other students across North Carolina.

Can you help me understand the test scores report?

The report provides you a summary of your child’s score on the EOG tests. Your child’s performance is reflected in up to four data elements. These elements are:

  1. Achievement Level (Not Proficient, 3, 4, or 5)
  2. Scale score
  3. Percentile Rank
  4. Lexile for Reading and Quantile for Mathematics

You are also provided a comparison of how your child performed to the average scale scores of students within Carolina Charter Academy and North Carolina. Find out more about Individual Student Reports Find out more about Individual Student Reports.

What is Read to Achieve?

Read to Achieve is a state mandated assessment administered to students in 3rd grade who have not been able to prove proficiency on either the EOG, MAP or F&P assessments throughout the school year. Learn more about RtA and see our FAQs here.

What do each of the achievement levels mean?

Full details on achievement levels are provided by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.

What are Lexile levels?

A Lexile level is assigned to most books and is generally listed on the back cover. Lexile levels are also provided as a part of this report for each student taking the ELA/Reading assessment. These scores provide you with an indication of the level of books your child should be able to read comfortably. The student’s Lexile score can be used to match your child to a book or other reading material that is close to their ability. As you prepare to enjoy the summer, include reading as an activity and use your child’s Lexile score to help you select interesting and fun books for your child to read. Reading when not in school helps students to improve academically.

I'm still not sure I understand. How do I learn more?
